INCREDIBLE COFFEE, EVERYWHERE
When Ratio introduced the Four in 2024, it quickly became a favourite for those who wanted a small batch brewer with the same design ethos and performance as their larger machines. The first production run sold out in just over 6 months!
Guided by feedback, Ratio re-tuned, refined, and elevated. The result: the Ratio Four Series 2 - an even more polished take on their compact classic.
What's new in the Series 2
Refined Showerhead - Redesigned for better, even extraction across the coffee bed, bringing balance and consistency to every cup. Ratio tested various showerhead sizes and designs to find the one that produced an even water distribution.
Updated Filter Basket - With a new extended handle and smoother rails, the basket is easier to insert and remove so you don't bump the start button by accident.
Updated Pump - Now brews at a hush. Ratio fine-tuned the pump to be even more silent than before, allowing for a relaxed morning routine.
Tuned Button Sensitivity - Adjusted to eliminate accidental brew, giving you a more confident start every time.
Pulse Timing Improvements - Subtle adjustments to the pulse pour deliver a higher end-brew temperature for optimal extraction and enjoyment.
Ever wonder what the convenience of a Keurig really costs? Ratio did too. On average, $33-$50 a pound, depending on the roaster. For mediocre coffee, brewed with haste and waste at the forefront, into throwaway plastic pods.
There is a better way. Buy fresh from your local roaster and have the Four brew up a cup — the taste will be monumentally better.
Filling your water tank just got way easier. Simply take the removable canister to the sink and fill between 147 and 590 millilitres (5-20oz). If you're after precision and want to weigh the water, put the tank on your scale and fill to your target water volume.
Also called pre-infusion, this initial burst of hot water causes freshly roasted coffee to bubble up in a "bloom." The Four then lets the coffee rest and settle back down for 15 seconds before delivering the remaining hot water, leading to a more complete extraction.
The Ratio Four works with several popular filters. It ships with a flat filter basket (for use with Melitta or similar filters) that encourages a consistent extraction, but the Hario V60™, Kalita Wave™, and Origami™ all work perfectly as well.
The Four's powerful and compact heating element ensures the hot water is between 91-95° Celsius / 195-203° Fahrenheit at the shower head, which meets the Specialty Coffee Association standards for brewed coffee.
The wide shower head ensures the coffee grounds are fully saturated. The shower head is removable without tools for easy cleaning and descaling.
If you’re familiar with Ratio Coffee, you already know that they build coffee makers that look incredible and produce a brew that would make your favourite barista proud.
The Ratio Four is their smallest brewer yet, an agile, sleek machine that puts out between 147 and 590 millilitres (5-20oz) of coffee per batch, enough for one to two reasonably sized cups, or one big travel mug.
The Four uses the exact same technology powering its predecessors, allowing the release of CO2 via a bloom cycle, distributing water across the grounds at precise temperatures via a wide showerhead.
Ratio is smarter than your average coffee maker. Beneath the exterior is precise brewing science, automated. Ratio is equipped with a powerful heating element. Where lesser machines struggle to maintain the optimum temperature – brewing either too hot or too cold – Ratio delivers water at or near the optimum temperature of 200 degrees.
Gathering feedback from champion baristas and our customer base, we have developed machines that emulate a manual pour-over, fine-tuned to provide a sweet cup that lacks bitterness.
Hot water poured over fresh roasted coffee causes a bubbly interaction called a "bloom". The control board of Ratio machines apply a bloom cycle that allows the bloom to settle down before delivering the rest of the hot water. The result? More evenly extracted grounds and a more amazing cup of coffee.
Sometimes you just want a great cup of coffee without having to think about time, temperature, and other variables. Which is why Ratio machines have just one button and no complicated programming. The subtle white lights on the front of the machine will tell you what’s happening with the brew cycle, but you probably have better things to do like catch up on your morning read. Ratio won’t mind at all.
Whether a carafe for the party or a cup for the road, both should be equally easy and delicious. That’s why Ratio designed brewers to automatically determine the amount of water you’ve added to the tank and adjust the brewing time accordingly.
You shouldn't have to be a trained barista to make great coffee, and you shouldn’t have to be an engineer to clean your coffee maker. After brewing, simply rinse out the sturdy carafe with hot water, discard or compost the used paper filter, and you’re done. For deeper cleaning every other week or so, Ratio cleaning detergent will keep the water tank and carafe sparkling clean.
There are coffee machines that make great coffee and there are coffee machines that look great. Ratio makes coffee machine that are truly both, combining form and function.
Designed in Portland, Oregon, every Ratio machine is meticulously assembled by hand. While common appliances often have a built-in obsolescence and a life span of maybe 2-3 years, Ratio is designed to last.
